This photo, of a friend of mine, Jo, taken by Riverside Ponies, is a perfect example of how we can overcome our fears in so many ways, with a mixture of methods, but one of the most important ones is to not take ourselves too seriously and be prepared to have something that will make us smile.
This photo is an amazing one to see Jo out and competing after working with her fears for awhile and so when I saw it yesterday I just had to ask her and Riverside - please, can I use it? It's perfect for something I want to say!
Which is, when we get uptight and worried, then our whole body responds to that, which feeds into our brain, and our movements - and, as a reflection of ourselves and our own mood, the horse reacts as well.
No longer can the horse open our mind up to allow it to be regulated because we've shut ourself off, so then the horse goes into "danger zone" as well.
The perfect storm :( The circle of fear and the doomed 'til one of you gives up!
BUT, imagine, after working through these areas of worry and fear you have also incporated the ability to laugh at yourself, to smile, to release the stress and relax, to allow your horse to keep you calm whilst you keep your horse calm - what a relief that would be and what an entirely different scenario you would face ...................
So brave pants - tick
Smile - tick
Relaxed horse and rider - it takes time, but a huge tick in there when you've got it! :)
Want to know more? Chat away to me and we can fix up something before the summer starts to allow you to enjoy the nice weather and being out with friends and your horse.
