April Fool's Day

A day where critical thinking rules!

Did you get caught this morning?

I am glad to say that, whilst I was tempted to think that the Welsh Guards would look rather stunning in red bearskins, I wasn't caught at all - and I only said that because I'm a redhead so why wouldn't I love the idea?!

But, it's very hard sometimes isn't it, to see the various items in the news, in the papers and especially on the internet and wonder - what truth do any of them contain?

We are bombarded with new ideas, new theories, old ideas, concepts and mis-information that looks so very true and believable. We have scammers on the phone and on our email sending out even videos and voice messages using fragments of people's videos uploaded in happy times - for nerfarious reasons and to steal from scared and worried relatives.

We're told we can get rich quick from hustle A whilst hustle B is telling us that hustle A is a con and we just need to "think more attraction" and we can get rich quick by thought and passive income!

We like someone and hear what they say on the internet, and then the competitiors come out and accuse them of awful things - or we hear people abusing the system and conning people to "health and wellbeing"

No wonder that people are confused, scared and very very wary about anything that comes out.

So, apart from after 12pm and all the other days of the year - how can we tell what's true and what's not?

Firstly, we can ask those we know and trust and who are in positions where they are put by others and in an area where they have to stand on principles and ethics and decency. Where they have had an education which seeks to ensure that they continue to look at everything with a knowledge and wisdom that they have learnt over time. And we can cross check with others what they say - because no-one who really cares for you will mind that happening.

Secondly, we can embrace our own thoughts and ideas - remember the saying "if it's too good to be true, it's not"! When we are promised the world but there's something sniffy - then re-enact use of our "gut" sense that has that spidery "not sure about this". For example, not long ago, I was trying to move a horse from one side of Ireland to another - and the person doing the transport was saying a lot of things that weren't making a whole load of sense to me - so when they were demanding money - then I let my mind go with what it was telling me - and looked elsewhere!

Thirdly, following on from that - does it make sense to you? Does it give you credit for the work that you have put in - hard work, dedication, learning, ability, knowledge and experience - and does it acknowledge the accountability and responsibility that you have in doing it? Or does it just rely on luck and other people? Is what the person saying making sense with what you know about the world - and those around you know - and those who you discuss it with? Talk to other people - ask them what they think - establish your own little community - check reviews and comments - see if they are held in respect and accountability in the world at large - and if you don't understand what they are saying - then can they explain it to you in simple terms that you can understand?

Never be afraid to ask, never be afraid to question, never be afraid to look silly - because if someone is truly honest, they are not going to ever make you look silly and they are going to be able to explain it in a way that is comprehensible!

And trust yourself - and each time you do that and get support as well - you will allow yourself to learn from it, learn how people are when they tell you the truth, learn how people behave when they are scamming you - and, most of all, learn how and where you can rely on your own intuition in this.
